Printmaking to the third Degree

So I've forgotten to post a lot since last month, even though I've done so much.

SUPER IMPORTANT NOTICE THAT PRECEDES EVERYTHING:

I now have a cargo collective! It's a much better portfolio site than the one that currently at beniluzada.com, so I will be trying to get that changed.

Well, here is a single project that I've just completed. It's a 3D print, and it's fun to make, even getting the (mis)registration correct.

The Inventor. 9"x12"

Just some of the edition, there are going to be around 13?

just a work station

This next one is the next image to come, it's also gonna be 3D. I'm actually trying out a method that was shown to me by Bill Fick, a lino cut artist who does a lot of really cool work. He gessoes his Linoleum before he works, and uses india Ink instead of shaprie, that way he can get cool brush stroke textures and knows how to carve it b/c the lines are described properly. It's all very cool. He actually came and did a demo for us at MICA, so that's why I'm trying it.

Gonna be called something along the lines of "The General's Sacrifice."  There will be other stuff in there too that has yet to be drawn.

Next time I'll upload the rest or part of the rest of what I have been working on. That's important.

Till next time,

Ben

Meanwhile, Back At MICA

First project! Well, more accurately, first part of a large ass portfolio that is my semester project. The prints here is an inprocess variant of 5 that is around halfway carved. look out for my next post because that will be the finished version.

Ignore the 2 in the upper left corner, that's a whole separate project I will upload when I'm finished with it.

So yeah, steam powered robot warrior with a partly mechanical tiger. No biggie.

Well, that's all for now, time to get back to work!

Summer's Outcome

So I'm finally putting up everything that I did this summer (print wise) in chronological order.

Enjoy~! These took a ton of time, and a ton of work. I hope that you like them!

Sunset Cove
6"x9"

Fireworks Over The Blue Water Inn8"x16"

No Turning Back
11.5"x10"

The Long Road Home
12"x16"

The two above are printed off  the same block. they are the exact same size. It took time to carve and do changes to the print simultaneously.

Sunrise Over Chowder's Bay- Ogunquit, ME
26.5"x11"

Down To Dixie
 11.5x" x 8" (approximately, I forgot to measure it)

Apprentice. Apprenticeships.

So, as I might have mentioned in an earlier post, I'm apprenticing to a woodblock printer in Ogunquit Maine. His name is Don Gorvett, and he does an outstanding job at most prints. He is a reduction woodcut printer, so each edition is a alone of a kind and can never be reproduced. (A reduction print is the same a suicide print, you have one chance, and one chance only) Each of his prints run from 4 to 9 reductions, which is insane. You should check out his website to see what I'm talking about.

Anyways, I'm living with him for the next two months, and I'm uploading a few pictures now to show you how the place looks. I'll try my best to update every time I either pull a reduction, or do a major amount of carving. (I need to be in the studio to do this, because his house doesn't have internet)

Well, here we go! (A short tour of what I'm going to be dealing with for the next two months)

Downtown Perkin's Cove,  left of the bridge.

Downtown Perkin's Cover, right of the bridge.

Don's house/Where I am staying. A true cabin in the woods.

My bedroom, part one.

My bedroom, part two.

I even get my own personal bathroom!

Anyways that's all for now, I'll upload more next time I'm in the studio!

Till next time~

V.V.-Short Comic Preview

Sneak peak at my next short comic, "Victorian Vigilante" based off the song (of the same name) by the band Abney Park. You can listen to the song below.

The Comic~!

It will be up shortly, well, at least photos of the finished drawings will be. My computer is dead, and I am currently having to use the computers in MICA's Illustration department. (Where I am working)

Till next time~!

Figure...Drawings?

So in case I forgot to mention this somewhere, I am taking life drawing classes here at MICA over this summer with Laini Nemett, well, morel like ending in a week, but eh, oh well. Here are two things that have come out of it so far. (note: these are two of probably hundreds of drawings I have done in the past month or so, they are the most complete/ my teacher decided to take pictures of to put on her blog?)

Roughly two hours, Graphite and Charcoal. 18"x 24" Model: Lara

Three hours, Charcoal, 29"x 41" Models: Michelle & Niki

(I know both their heads are too small, sorry. I didn't realize it until it was waaaay to late to change anything without having to adjust major portions of the drawing)
Well, if I get around to taking pictures of anything else, or I get through some pages in the comic which I am drawing for the final (fuck me right? two weeks to do this? No, 6 days. DX)

Till next time~!
